tabisky (sp?)

so yesterday was tabisky which is a muslim holiday celebrating when God provided Abraham with a ram (male sheep) so he wouldn't have to sacrifice his son, Issac. so wednesday night i come home and see across the street all of these sheep. there were 8 sheep just standing in front of the house while some ppl slept nearby watching over them (although ppl sleep outside here a lot b/c it is so much cooler). the next day, as i go outside i hear all this commotion, across the street what looked like all the men of the family were involved in slaughtering, skinning, and degutting all 8 sheep. they just slit the throats, peeled off the skin and sliced the open the abdomen to remove the entrails. then they built 2 huge racks about 15-20 ft long each and tied the sheep to them to smoke. one of my friends here was saying how it is a big family holiday and many ppl come together to share and apparently eat a lot of sheep. the family across the street gave us some too so who knows how long we'll be eating sheep ourselves...
